Keys is a program to aid the learning of language roots. Keys allows you to type in any word and will display the roots and their associated definition. By learning what the roots mean, it is easier to define and understand most of the words in our English language.
Ñ Requirements:
In order to run keys you need at least a Macintosh 512KE, running system 6.0 or greater. Keys is Multifinder happy, even with a smaller partition (it actually uses under 100K). Keys has been tested on a Macintosh Plus, and a Macintosh IIcx. If you have any Keys/hardware compatibility problems please drop me a note.
Ñ Running Keys
Run the Keys application and then select "Open Keys" under the file menu. Type in any word, and click on the look-up button (or hit return). Keys will list the roots (and the root's synonyms) in the order they are found in the box below. After the root(s), a definition will follow. Keys tries to locate the exact matching root. Sometimes, due to the nature of the word, the program will not find all of the correct roots. For example, with the word "biology" Keys will find "bio" but has problems with "logy" because it comes across "log" first. For this problem, I added the check box "All roots" which will locate every possible root for the look-up word.
Ñ Registration:
Keys is shareware. You can distribute and examine Keys for 20 days. If you like Keys and want to continue using the program, please send a check or money order of $20 (or what you think it's worth) to the address below.
